War.” Chap. 2 “A Culture of Peace.”
Chaps. 6-8: Individuals and Organizations Honored. This is the organization raising money to
build a peace monument in D.C., city of war memorials. From Chap. 1 by Knox: “Despite the horrors of
deaths and suffering, brutality and destruction, and financial costs, our
military-industrial-congressional-education-religious complex supports war as a
cultural imperative.” “U.S. militarism
is an existential threat to the entire planet.
We must put the world first. We
must put peace first.”
Dear Founding
Members and Friends,
US Peace Prize recipient Costs of War reports that deaths related to
our post-9/11 wars have risen to about 4.5-4.6 million and counting. As
U.S. aggression continues, we must demand peace and reinforce those
working to end war and militarism. Please support the US Peace Memorial.
Fundraising has unexpectedly stalled. More than half
the year has passed; as of today, we have only received $4137 in 2023
donations. Because we rely on volunteers, our annual operating expenses
are less than $18,000. Unfortunately, only 68 gifts have been received.
Please help us to get back
on track so we can focus on our priorities: ·Honoring more Americans who are working
to end war. ·Publishing the US Peace Registry, which documents hundreds of role
models for peace. ·Awarding the annual US Peace Prize. ·Raising funds to build the US Peace Memorial in Washington, DC, dedicated to
those who have publicly opposed war and/or promoted peaceful
alternatives to war. The Memorial will serve as a shared public
symbol to remind everyone that many Americans value peace and that
opposing war is socially acceptable. Michael D.

Resolution on UA Nuclear Weapons Program
Dear Teresa Turk, First, I want to thank
you for all your great work on the Fayetteville City Council, especially on
environmental issues. On behalf of the OMNI Center and the
Arkansas Antiwar Alliance, I am writing to you in regard to the issue
of the University of Arkansas nuclear weapons program. The program
involves UA Engineering College professors and students researching and
designing nuclear weapons components for the corporation Honeywell
International. The work is done here in Fayetteville and at
Honeywell's Kansas City National Security Campus, where 80% of all U.S.
nuclear weapon components are manufactured. Our peace group was
very pleased that you signed our petition at the Farmer’s Market
recently. We currently have a total of 419 signatures calling for a
Stop to the UA nuclear program. I am writing to inquire if you would
be willing to sponsor a city council resolution to call for a stop to the
UA program? Matt Petty had previously agreed to sponsor this, but
unfortunately he resigned before it was introduced. This program is really
an embarrassment for our city. The Nobel Peace Prize-winning
organization ICAN, which spearheaded the internationally ratified Treaty on
the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, filed a report called Schools of Mass
Destruction, listing the U of A and about 50 other universities involved in
nuclear weapons research and development. Fayetteville has a long
history of opposition to nuclear weapons, including Mayoral Proclamations
for the past 20 years by Mayor Lioneld Jordan and Dan Coody, so it would
seem to follow that our city should say no to this program. At least
53 cities have already passed resolutions to support the Treaty on the
Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons that is now international law, and we hope
that Fayetteville will as well, and also call on a stop to the U of A
program. I have written a draft
resolution modeled on the cities that have already passed these
resolutions, and updated it to include the U of A program. Please let us know if you would be
willing to sponsor such a resolution. Abel Tomlinson OMNI Peace Action Committee, Chair Arkansas Antiwar Alliance,
