WHEN DID YOU FIRST KNOW?
When did you first realize you were complicit in global warming? That is, when did you first learn about the consequences of CO2 and rising temperatures? I am clearing my house of boxes of files and books and stumbled upon a pamphlet by Chris Sewell in the UK entitled simply “Peace.” It contains a page titled “Global Warming” with words defining carbon dioxide and tracing its mainly human origin (burning fossil fuels), including these words: “…in the last 200 years we have been pouring out too much carbon dioxide (as well as other ‘global warming gases’), and now the earth’s climate is changing.” This was dated 2001. So I have a record of being warned at least 20 years ago. But I could have awakened over 30 years ago, when Jim Hansen warned Congress in 1988 that the planet was over-heating.—Dick
A chief negative consequence of warming is and will increasingly be refugees. See WWW #33 on Ashley Dawson’s Extreme Cities.

Some scientists predict the sea will rise 1.5 meters before 2100, but rapidly melting polar ice caps could make the real amount much higher.

Climate change is already leading to rising sea levels, threatening island and coastal communities and devastating food security and access to fresh water. Long-term drought and changes in weather patterns are causing hunger and destroying farming land.
